Ashdod residents,
After assessing the situation, the following is the summary and instructions:
In recent days, we have learned about the increased use of fragmentation missiles - missiles that are fired at long distances and make it difficult to intercept simultaneously.
All recent events demonstrate the importance of adhering to the Home Front Command's instructions: enter the shelter and remain there until you receive notification that the event is over.
Iron Dome is not capable of providing a full response anyway, and even more so when firing fragmentation missiles.
Please adhere - to you and your families - to the life-saving rules.
Fragmentation missiles can contain cluster munitions, which explode into a large number of fragments. Some fragments do not explode immediately and may explode on contact. Therefore, it is extremely important: If you have located a suspicious item - do not touch it or approach it. You should immediately call the 100 or 106 hotline, and a police saboteur will neutralize the item and remove it safely.
According to our assessments, unless there is a surprising move, we are preparing for a campaign that will last at least several more weeks. This requires us, as a municipality, and all residents - to take a long breath and prepare appropriately for the expected period.
We are preparing to assist populations in need, and requests can be submitted through the municipal hotline, which is open to you 24/7.
Education
A result of the assessment of the situation is the understanding that we will probably not return to learning in educational institutions before the Passover holiday.
The educational teams are prepared and experienced in distance learning. It is very important to make sure that your children take an active part in learning - this is important for personal and emotional resilience, beyond the educational contribution. In this matter too, the educational teams and school administrations are prepared to assist those in need. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
Ashdod is strong and united.
Yours,
Dr. Yechiel Lasry
Mayor
