Dear Residents of Ashdod,
Following the latest situation assessment, please find the updated guidelines:
We have just experienced a difficult day, with dozens of launches directed at the State of Israel. Our hearts are with the family of the four victims who were killed last night in Haifa.
As we approach the second holiday of Passover and the upcoming Mimouna celebrations, it is especially important to emphasize: do not assume “it won’t happen to me.” Stay close to a protected space, know in advance where it is located, and enter it immediately upon receiving an alert.
Over the past day, we have seen increased movement outside the home, particularly among youth. Please speak with your children and stress the importance of following safety guidelines even during gatherings and leisure activities.
Regarding barbecues on Mimouna, we would like to clarify: as in every year, lighting fires and barbecues in municipal parks is not permitted. This year, enforcement will be increased. Our responsibility to ensure residents’ safety requires us to prevent gatherings in public areas that do not allow quick access to a protected space. Such gatherings naturally include children, and their safety and security are of utmost importance.
Education:
On Thursday, special education frameworks, informal education activities, sports activities, programs for at-risk youth, and 11th–12th grade classes (for matriculation exam preparation) will resume.
On Thursday, we will also make decisions regarding the format for gradually reopening the general education system, which is expected to resume from this coming Sunday.
The municipality continues to maintain full functional continuity—in sanitation, security at shopping centers, and preserving daily life in the city as much as possible.
Approximately 1,600 recreational kits have already been distributed, and distribution will continue on Thursday. In parallel, recreational activities for adults are ongoing in buildings and protected spaces, led by the municipal cultural company.
Please continue to act responsibly, remain alert, and maintain discipline. Especially now—this saves lives.
Wishing you a happy holiday. Enjoy time with family and friends, and stay safe.
Tirbachu Vetis’adu,
Yours,
Dr. Yehiel Lasry
Mayor of Ashdod
